About the board

The Library Board advises City Council on all matters pertaining to the operation, maintenance, activities, and facilities of both libraries. The board also recommends policies on library services, including resolution of questions dealing with intellectual freedom challenges, to council and administers special trusts established for the library.

Membership information

Founding document(s): ORS 357.465, AMC 2.50

Number of members: 7

Term of office: 4 years.
(Appointments within six months of position start date are considered full term.)

Membership requirements: Appointments begin July 1.

No person shall hold appointment as a member for more than two full consecutive terms, but any person may be appointed again to the board after an interval of one year.

No person shall serve simultaneously on the Budget Review Committee, Library Board, Parks & Recreation Commission, or Planning Commission.

Principal place of residence within the jurisdictional limits of the City of Albany. (Res 6797)

Each council member shall have one counterpart with nominations ratified by the Council.
