338 Sixth Avenue SW, c. 1882

Borrowed from France, the Second Empire Baroque style of architecture is patterned after the new Louvre (completed in 1857) in Paris and other French buildings built during the reign of Napoleon III (1852-1870). The main characteristics of the style include:

  1. Mansard roof
  2. Dormer windows
  3. Classic ornamentation, i.e., belt course, dentils, keystones
