Mennonite Village, 11/12/98
- Personal property crimes: car break-ins.
- Graffiti/vandalism.
- Drug use: what it can lead to; how to drug free zones.
- Firearms: access in regards to children; make it harder to purchase.
- Seniors burglary/scams.
- Salt: seniors and law enforcement together.
- Road rage.
- Need for more police.
- Neighborhood Watch: neighborhood associations
- Better lighting/more street lighting, motion lights.
- Consequences for crime/ tougher juvenile work crews, peer court.
- Sick of "offender rights."
- Backlog of the courts.
- School dropout rate; alternative.
- Programs, like C.A.P.
- Curfew: enforced (F-S, 12-5; Sun-Th, 10-5)
- Tougher laws for crime.
- Are gun shows good for the community?
- Prevention/consequences need to be balanced.
- More defense classes/awareness for seniors.
- The club for car safety: a discount bank.
Memorial Middle School, 11/12/98
- Need more block homes.
- Put people in jail the first time in order to stop the repeat offenders.
- There must be consequences for one's actions; no one takes responsibility anymore.
- Don't erase a juvenile's record so easily.
- If the police catch someone; they only laugh-they know it's only a joke.
- Question: how are Albany and Linn County doing on sex offender registration?
- I think there should be more police on the streets at all times.
- Neighborhood watch program.
- More education in school.
- Let schools help discipline your children from the get go.
- Bicycle police seem a good idea; they're closer to what's happening.
North Albany Middle School, 11/17/98
- Organize/publicize Neighborhood Watch GPS.
- Please incorporate new Fire-Police-Emergency Services Unit #14 with Neighborhood Watch.
- For Benton County/City of Albany jurisdictional grey areas (e.g. Police, Fire calls along Scenic Drive): who to call for what?
Calapooia Middle School, 11/19/98
- Self-esteem and young people; crime and safety issues:
- Neighborhood Watch Programs in all neighborhoods.
- Require community service from school children in order to graduate.
- Punish lawbreakers the first time.
- Curfew for children under 12 years old.
- More media coverage of young people who do praiseworthy deeds.
- Artificial ice rink at Fair & Expo Center; there is nothing to do in winter months.
- Better opportunity for dances for young people.
