KEEPING HOMES SAFE ON DEAD-END STREETS BY KEEPING THEM DEAD-ENDED!

Calapooia Middle School, 11/19/98

"My name is Pam Nelson. I live on 16th Avenue in the Lehigh area. My home has become the neighborhood home for the children of a neighborhood. I work night shift at Albany General and am home all day long. The children know this and they come to our home after school-either to play at the neighborhood home or to wait until their parents get home from work.

We would like the city planners to relook at putting 14th Avenue through, and assess the park for another way out of Lehigh. Or, to check with ODOT on a street light on Chestnut. This would also help the school buses out onto Santiam to go to South Shore Elementary School.

All kids grow up with a neighborhood home to be safe at. I want that type of home for my children and their friends!!!

Please give my children a safe place to play! Not one with a lot more traffic on it!!!

It is also too narrow of an avenue to make it safe. Many people do not utilize the park there; the street could be widened and the park used more-with parking on that street and lighting for it, too.

Please relook at this planning!

Thank you,

Pam Nelson"
