GREAT NEIGHBORHOODS
PROJECT REPORT
City of Albany, Oregon, November 1998
ZONING/LAND USE
North Albany Middle School, 11/17/98
- Future developments should have room for open spaces, parks, bikepaths.
- Zoning should reflect the best use of the land both physically and aesthetically.
- Housing away from freeways; use those areas for industrial, etc.
- Put housing in more desirable areas; leaving farm land surrounded by city is not practical use of land because farming becomes too difficult in a city atmosphere. Land could be better used as housing, open space, parks, lakes, paths, trails, etc.
- All apartments zoned with green space, play areas for kids and off-street parking.
- Keep balances for all areas: east Albany should have same commercial services as west Albany, the same as North Albany, the same as south Albany, etc.; same % of apartments; same % of single family; same ratio of people to services.
- If an area is to be developed, it must include green area, off-street parking, services (gas stations, grocery stores, etc.).
- Keep airport intact for long term benefit.
- Planned neighborhoods for retired.
Calapooia Middle School, 11/19/98
- Set up zoning so that freeways, airports, existing heavy industry are basis for industry-arranged to protect neighborhoods from noise, eliminate through traffic, minimize pollution, shortest possible travel from I-5/major highway to commercial/industrial areas (plan ahead!!) (buffer and transition). Appropriate site planning for manufactured home.
