Neighborhood Speed Watch
Whether your concern is your children playing in the neighborhood, your pet's safety, backing the car out of the driveway, or a blind corner, speeding is a neighborhood issue that often "hits" home.
Neighborhood residents are often frustrated at what little can apparently be done about speeding. Police patrols often provide a short-lived solution to a continuing issue.
The Neighborhood Speed Watch program is a way for neighbors to do something about speeding. It provides neighbors an alternative to yelling an antagonizing "SLOW DOWN" at moving cars.
SMART system
The Albany Police Department responds to requests from citizens for placement of the SMART system in neighborhoods throughout Albany.
The SMART system is a self-contained speed monitoring radar trailer, placed at the roadside and displays the speed of on-coming vehicles. A specially designed Kustom radar is mounted inside the trailer. Motorist's speeds are shown on a highly visible LED display. The speed limit sign above the display reminds motorists to pay attention and ease up on the gas pedal.
The SMART system will be parked at a requested location for approximately seven daylight hours. For more information, contact Lynn Hinrichs at 541-917-7680, or by e-mail.
