Benton County seeks volunteers for committees

The Benton County Board of Commissioners is seeking community members to fill vacancies on a variety of panels that impact county services.
In all there are 18 advisory boards, commissions and committees and members may serve up to two consecutive terms. Members are appointed by the Board of Commissioners to fill vacancies, which have set terms.
Activation of Oak Street traffic signals

The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT), in conjunction with the City of Albany, activated the new traffic signals on Oak Street at Pacific Boulevard, and Oak Street at 9th Avenue on Wednesday, June 5, 2013.
Oak Street between Pacific Boulevard and 9th Avenue is now open to through traffic. Drivers and cyclists should be aware of changed traffic conditions in the vicinity of the new traffic signals.

Hill Street Closure

Beginning Monday, June 17, 2013, Hill Street will be closed to through traffic between Queen Avenue and 24th Avenue during construction of a new water main. Two other streets in the area will also be closed: 18th Avenue west of Hill Street to Main Street, and 19th Avenue between Madison and Hill streets.
Citizens' Police Academy now accepting applications

The popular Citizens' Police Academy is now accepting applications until Friday, August 16, 2013, no later than 5:00 p.m. Topics include, but are not limited to: patrol procedures, investigation skills, K-9 unit, building searches, crime prevention, and use of firearms. The Albany Revitalization Agency (ARA) will hold a PUBLIC HEARING on Wednesday, June 19, 2013, immediately following the Central Albany Revitalization Area (CARA) Advisory Board meeting that begins at 5:15 p.m. in the Albany City Hall Council Chambers, 333 Broadalbin SW, Albany. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the ARA Budget for Fiscal Year beginning July 1, 2013, as approved by the ARA Budget Committee on May 14, 2013. The public is invited to present any written or oral testimony at the time.

Albany Population Increases to 50,710

Official population estimates issued in December 2012 by the Portland State University Population Research Center list Albany, Oregon, with a population of 50,710 as of July 2012. This is an increase of 190 residents over the prior year, and an increase of 552 or 1.15 percent since the 2010 Census count of 50,158.
Draft Vulnerable Populations Emergency Plan available for Public Review

Linn and Benton counties and the City of Albany have completed a joint draft plan to assist vulnerable populations in times of emergency and invite the public to review it and comment.
