The City of Albany has drafted an update of its five-year Strategic Plan and invites public comment on it.
The City has had a strategic plan since 2007. While many cities and counties set goals annually, the Albany City Council has adopted this planning model in order to consciously consider the full, broad range of services that the City provides. The Strategic Plan serves as an important reference when setting the City's budget; it looks forward over the next five years, which helps the Council take a longer view when weighing competing priorities.
The plan focuses on four themes: the need for a safe community, great neighborhoods, a healthy economy, and an effective government. Each theme is outlined by specific goals, with objectives for each goal and actions recommended to accomplish them in fiscal years 2013-2017.
Copies of the draft Strategic Plan are available for review at City Hall Parks & Recreation counter, 333 Broadalbin Street SW; Main Library, 2450 14th Avenue SE; and Carnegie Library, 302 Ferry Street SW; or on the City's website, http://www.cityofalbany.net/images/stories/citymanager/coa-strategicplan-draft.pdf.
