Message from Chief Edward Boyd:
Hello, and welcome to the Albany Police Department Home page. It is my profound honor and privilege to work side-by-side with the men and women of the Albany Police Department. Through their time and talents, their dedication to duty, pride in their work and their unqualified commitment; they provide the highest quality public safety services to our community. Our department mission statement, “Excellence Through Service” guides us in all we do. I am proud of our dedicated police professionals who make a positive difference in the community through impartial and respectful treatment of people and with integrity that fosters your trust.
Community partnerships are integral to our success in maintaining the public safety in Albany. In order to accomplish our mission, we encourage community involvement and input. Citizens share a responsibility to actively report all public safety concerns and work closely with us to help resolve problems and develop long-term solutions. We encourage you to become involved through programs like our Citizen’s Academy, Neighborhood Watch, Citizen Patrol, Seniors and Law Enforcement Together (SALT), Graffiti Abatement, Ride-a-Long Patrol Observation, or Neighborhood Speed Watch. You may contact our Community Resource Unit at 541-917-7680 for further information on any of our community education programs. By working together, we will continue to create and maintain the quality of life we expect for all who live in and visit Albany.
The Albany Police Department serves almost 50,000 residents and employs sixty-three sworn officers and thirty-two civilian staff who carry on a rich tradition of professional public safety service. The Department provides 24-hour service to the community every day of the year. We will celebrate our 150th Anniversary as the City of Albany Police Department in 2010 and we look forward to serving, in partnership with the citizens of Albany, for many years to come. Whether you are an Albany resident or just visiting, we are here to serve your public safety needs and welcome you to our website.
