Protecting Your Vehicle
- LOCK YOUR VEHICLE, EVEN AT HOME. Car thieves and
Burglars have an easy time when they find an unlocked car door. It
only takes a few seconds to rifle through your car and steal easily
transportable and easily sold items, i.e. sunglasses, compact disks,
cassette tapes, briefcases, computers, etc... The thieves just walk
along and pull on the door handles, looking for that easy, unlocked
vehicle.
- You should be in the HABIT of always locking
your vehicle.
- DON'T LEAVE ITEMS IN YOUR VEHICLE! Take your
briefcase, computer, wallet, purse, CD's, keys, anything of value
into the house with you every time you get out of the car. The Albany
Police Department recommends you not leave any valuables in site
in your car while at the mall or any other parking lot.
- And ladies DON'T leave your purse in the car
while you just run into the cleaners, day care, store or anywhere
else. It is just to tempting for a thief to see the purse sitting
there. Always carry your purse with you, no matter
how short of a time you will be out of the vehicle. Theft from vehicles
is a common occurrence, and can be eliminated with simple steps.
- And finally, DON'T ever leave you car keys anywhere
inside of the vehicle while you are not there.
