Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.)

D.A.R.E. is a nationally recognized drug education program offered to Albany’s fifth grade students. It is designed to educate our youth about avoiding drug abuse and to improve the student’s self esteem by teaching them the skills to say "NO" to drugs. The Albany Police Department has been teaching D.A.R.E. since 1989. The D.A.R.E. officer must have a minimum two years’ law enforcement experience and successfully complete a two-week state training course.
