Environmental
Management System
The
City of Albany is one of 27 charter members in the national Environmental
Management System (EMS) development program supported by the National
Biosolids Partnership (NBP), a group that includes the U.S.E.P.A., the
Water Environment Federation (WEF), and the National Association of Clean
Water Agencies (NACWA). An EMS is a set of standard procedures and steps
that managers can use to improve the effectiveness of their operations,
to meet regulatory requirements, and to address issues of concern for
local citizens.
The biosolids EMS covers all aspects of the City's biosolids process including industrial pretreatment, biosolids production, application, and public participation.
The City has a biosolids EMS Team which includes staff from all aspects of the biosolids management program. The EMS Team has developed and revised the EMS Manual, successfully completed the initial verification audit and two follow-up audits, and meets regularly to continually improve our biosolids and EMS programs. One key component of the EMS is input from interested parties. If you have comments, questions, or suggestions regarding Albany’s biosolids management program, we would like to hear from you.
