How can I get a flood elevation certificate for our home (for insurance quote purposes)? This would need to include flood zone info, an Albany community number and any additional elevation numbers.

Buildings in special flood hazard areas shown on Flood insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) may be damaged when flooding occurs. Some buildings flood frequently, while others get damaged by only the more severe events. If your home is in the 1 per cent annual chance floodplain, it has a 26 per cent chance of getting flooded over a 30-year period. This means it is about five times more likely to get damaged by flood than by a severe fire.An elevation certificate is a form of the National Flood Insurance Program to verify the risk of exposure to flood hazard. The certificate shows the elevations of the first floor, foundation, and surrounding land. It also shows the base flood elevation, i.e., the elevation of flood water calculated to occur during a 100-year flood. The elevation certificate is prepared by a licensed land surveyor at the property owner's expense. For new construction, City will request an elevation certificate upon completion of the building to verify that the first floor of the building is at least one foot above the flood elevation. Contact the Building Division (917-7553) to find out if they have an elevation certificate on file. For existing structures, an insurance agent writing an application for flood insurance may request an elevation certificate to determine the proper rate for coverage. The City does not receive a copy of certificates filled out for flood insurance.
