News Release:
Summer Reading Program Signups Begin

Children up to age 18 may now sign up to count their reading in this year's Albany Public Library Summer Reading Program.

Prizes, parties, and special events will fill the program this summer, including the return of Reptile Man.  Events for young adults (grades 6 through 12) include the Talent Show and Parking Lot Sale, as well as participation in a marionette troupe performing with stringed puppets and opportunities for volunteer work. Star Wars and Harry Potter events are also planned.  Four preschool special events featuring visiting singers and storytellers will be offered throughout the summer.

Kids who read or listen for 25 hours can swim at an end-of-summer party at COOL! pool in August.

Prizes from local merchants at Dairy Queen, Carl's Jr., Frogs and Polliwogs, Blueberry Meadows, and Little Caesar's will be awarded to participants.  Weekly guessing jars offer prizes and tantalizing puzzles, too.

Participants can pick up event calendars and reading logs at the Main Library, 2450 14th Avenue SE; at the Carnegie Library, 302 Ferry Street SW; or visit the Library's Web site at www.library.cityofalbany.net.
