The planned two-month closure of Columbus Street between the Oak Creek bridge and Seven Mile Lane has been delayed.
The road was scheduled to close on March 29, 2018, for about two months while construction crews extend a City of Albany sewer main to serve a new subdivision that will be developed west of the Seven Mile Lane intersection. The property for the new subdivision is subject to a pending sale; the current owners, Metropolitan Land Group of Beaverton, requested the delay until the sale is final.
The work is expected to go ahead this spring; a new closure period will be announced when the construction date is set. Canby Excavating, Inc., is the contractor for this project.
A 12-inch sewer main will be installed under the centerline of Columbus Street for about 1,200 feet to Seven Mile Lane. Grade and depth for future connections require the line to be installed 20 feet below the surface. By closing the road, construction work can be completed more quickly.
Detours will direct drivers around the closure while work is underway. The alternate routes should take drivers an additional 7-10 minutes of travel time.
