South Albany High School Arson Arrest

On Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at about 8:00 p.m., 28-year-old Albany resident Zachary Lee Burghart was arrested in connection with the early morning fire set at South Albany High School as well as a travel trailer.
Zachary Burghart was lodged in the Linn County Jail on the following charges:
- Arson in the First Degree (3 counts)
- Criminal Mischief in the First Degree (2 counts)
- Failure to Perform the Duties of a Driver (2 counts)
The investigation showed Zachary Burghart set the fires on April 1, 2015, which destroyed the South Albany High School Cafeteria as well as a travel trailer in the neighborhood. The travel trailer, parked in a driveway in the 1500 block of SE Del Rio Avenue, was destroyed after the propane tanks exploded.
Zachary Burghart was also charged for damage he caused with his vehicle to South Albany High School parking lot gates as well as a camper parked on the street in the area.
