The City of Albany's Adopt-a-Park program is a way for individuals, groups, or businesses to show their pride and commitment to the city's parks and green spaces. With your help, we can keep our city parks beautiful, clean, and safe.
What happens once I adopt a park?
Once you adopt a park, you will be responsible for 2 service projects a year and weekly/monthly tasks (less required in winter months). A meeting with a park maintenance supervisor will be arranged to discuss projects
What types of tasks and projects can be done in the adopted parks?
There are many different projects that can be done in the parks. Each park has a different need and the needs vary with the weather and time of year. A work plan will be created for each adopted park specifying the needs of that park as potential volunteer projects. Some examples of typical projects:
- Flower bed planting
- Tree planting
- Litter pickup
- Invasive plant removal
- Spread bark/woodchips
- Graffiti removal
- Playground equipment cleaning
- Trail maintenance*
*The City of Albany has 10 citywide trails and paths that could be adopted in lieu of a park.
Will tools be supplied for the projects?
Yes, tools and supplies will be provided by the City of Albany's Park and Recreation Department.
Will there be any recognition for participating in this program?
Yes, the City of Albany will install one acknowledgement sign at the adopted park for the public to see. A press release will be submitted to local papers to announce the adoption, and you or your company will be recognized on the Parks and Recreation website.
