SCAM WARNING

Over the past few weeks our utility billing customer service team have noticed an increase in fake emails and phone calls from scammers claiming to be from the City asking for payment. Bottom line? If you receive an email or phone call claiming to be from the City of Albany and you have suspicions it is not legitimate, such as a phone number from out of state, do not give out your information, and hang up immediately. You can always call 541-917-7547, email This email address is being protected from spambots. A couple recent examples:
  • An impersonator claiming to be from the City called an Albany customer demanding a deposit to turn their water back on. They unfortunately fell for the scam and gave out their information. The scammer then tried later to call utility billing impersonating the scammed customer. Thanks to the quick actions of our customer service team, they refused payment and put an alert on the account.
  • Another customer received an email stating that they had a balance due on their account and asking for payment. In fact, the email was not sent from the City and they had a $0 balance. Luckily they did not give out any information and came down to City Hall to confirm.
